Beat Sync & Phase

Keep your decks in perfect time. Tremor's sync system automatically matches tempo and aligns beats, so you can focus on creativity instead of beatmatching.

Understanding BPM Detection

When you load a track, Tremor automatically analyzes it to detect the BPM (beats per minute) and locate the beat positions. This analysis uses advanced AI trained on thousands of tracks across all genres.

You'll see a pulsing "---" animation while the track is being analyzed. Once complete, the BPM appears in the deck header and the beat grid is drawn on the waveform.

Accuracy

BPM detection works best with electronic, pop, hip-hop, and most danceable music. Tracks with tempo changes or complex rhythms may need manual correction.

Using the SYNC Button

The SYNC button on each deck locks that deck's tempo to the other deck. Here's how to use it:

  1. 1
Play Deck A — This becomes your "leader" deck. Its tempo is the reference.
  2. 2
Load a track on Deck B — Let Tremor analyze the BPM. Wait for the number to appear.
  3. 3
Press SYNC on Deck B — Deck B now matches Deck A's tempo. The pitch fader moves to show the speed change.
  4. 4
Start playback — Press Play on Deck B. The beats will be aligned. The phase indicator shows sync status.

Leader / Follower

When you press SYNC on a deck, it becomes the follower. The other deck is the leader. The follower continuously adjusts to stay locked to the leader's tempo.

The Beat Grid

The waveform shows vertical lines at each beat position. The downbeat (beat 1 of each bar) has a thicker, brighter marker. When two decks are synced, their beat grids should align perfectly.

Correcting the Downbeat

Sometimes the automatic detection places beat 1 on the wrong beat. You can fix this:

💡

Visual Alignment

When mixing, look at the waveforms. If the beat lines from both decks stack on top of each other, you're in sync. If they're offset, the tracks will sound out of phase.

Phase Indicators

Tremor shows phase alignment in two ways:

Circular Phase Display

On the SYNC page, two colored arcs rotate to show each deck's position within the beat cycle. When the arcs overlap, the decks are in phase.

Phase Bar

A vertical bar between the waveforms changes color:

Manual Beatmatching

If you prefer to beatmatch by ear (like vinyl DJs), you can disable sync and use manual controls:

Quantize Mode

When Quantize is enabled, hot cues and loops snap to the beat grid. This helps keep things tight but can feel restrictive for manual DJs. Toggle it off in Settings if you prefer full manual control.
