Troubleshooting

Solutions to common issues. If you don't find your answer here, please open an issue on GitHub.

🔊 Audio Issues

Q No sound is coming out

Check these in order:

  1. Is your device volume up? Check the physical volume buttons.
  2. Is Silent Mode on? The switch on the side of iPhone should not show orange.
  3. Are the channel faders up? Check both the channel fader and the crossfader position.
  4. Is a track loaded and playing? Look for the waveform scrolling.
  5. Try a different audio output: Settings → Audio Output.
Q Audio is crackling or stuttering

This usually means the device is under heavy load:

  1. Close other apps running in the background.
  2. Disable stem separation if you're not using it (frees up Neural Engine).
  3. On older devices, try reducing the audio buffer size in iOS Settings → Tremor → Buffer Size.
  4. Make sure your device isn't in Low Power Mode.
Q Audio latency is too high

For the lowest latency:

  1. Use wired headphones/speakers instead of Bluetooth.
  2. If using a controller, connect via USB instead of Bluetooth.
  3. Reduce the buffer size in settings (lower = less latency, but more CPU).

Sync Problems

Q BPM detection is wrong

Sometimes the detected BPM is half or double the actual tempo. This is common with tracks that have ambiguous rhythms.

Fix: Go to the SYNC page and tap the BPM value. Use the x2 or /2 buttons to double or halve the BPM. You can also tap the correct tempo manually.

Q Beats drift out of sync over time

This can happen when the BPM detection is slightly off (e.g., 127.95 vs 128.00).

Fix: Tap the deck's BPM to open the tempo editor. Round to a whole number (e.g., 128.0) or adjust by small increments until the drift stops.

Q Downbeat is on the wrong beat

The beat grid shows beat 1 (the downbeat) with a thicker line. If it's placed on the wrong beat:

Fix: Go to the SYNC page. Listen for the first beat of a bar (usually the kick emphasis). Tap TAP exactly on that beat to set the downbeat.

Controller Setup

Q Controller is not detected
  1. Make sure the controller is powered on.
  2. Try a different USB cable (some cables are charge-only, not data).
  3. Use a powered USB hub if your controller needs more power than the device provides.
  4. For Bluetooth controllers: pair in iOS Settings first, then open Tremor.
  5. Restart Tremor and try again.
Q Jog wheel feels laggy or unresponsive

Jog sensitivity can be adjusted:

  1. Go to iOS Settings → Tremor → Jog Wheel Sensitivity
  2. Increase the sensitivity value
  3. If using Bluetooth, try USB instead for lower latency
Q Some buttons don't work

If your controller isn't in our factory mapping list, some controls may not be mapped.

Fix: Use MIDI Learn to manually assign controls. Go to Settings → MIDI → MIDI Learn, tap the on-screen control, then move the physical control.

Stem Separation

Q Stems are taking a long time to separate

Stem separation uses the Neural Engine which is fastest on Apple Silicon.

  • iPhone 12+ / iPad with A14 or M1+: Should complete in seconds using Neural Engine
  • Older iPhones and iPads: Falls back to CPU, may take 30-60 seconds per track

Enable Pre-analyze library in Settings to process stems in advance.

Q Stem quality sounds bad

AI separation isn't perfect. Quality varies by track:

  • Clean, well-produced tracks separate best
  • Heavily compressed or distorted tracks may have artifacts
  • Live recordings with bleed are harder to separate

Try adjusting the stem volume instead of muting completely — small artifacts are less noticeable when blended.

General Issues

Q App crashes when loading a track
  1. Make sure you're running the latest version of Tremor
  2. Try loading a different track — the file may be corrupted
  3. Restart your device and try again
  4. If the problem persists, report the issue with the track details
Q My music library doesn't show up

Tremor needs permission to access your music:

  1. Go to iOS Settings → Tremor → Media & Apple Music
  2. Make sure access is enabled
  3. If it was previously denied, toggle it off and on again
  4. Restart Tremor
