Chapter 1

Getting Started

Everything you need to install Tremor and start DJing in minutes.

1System Requirements

Tremor is designed to run smoothly on modern iOS devices. Here is what you need:

Operating System
iOS 17+
iPadOS 17 or later
Device
iPhone or iPad
Universal app
Processor
A14+
Recommended for AI
Storage
200MB+
For stem cache

Device Compatibility

  • iPhone: iPhone 11 and later (iPhone 12 or newer recommended)
  • iPad: iPad (8th generation) and later, iPad Air (3rd generation) and later, iPad Pro (all models with Face ID)
  • iPod touch: Not supported
AI Features and Processor Requirements

AI-powered features like stem separation and neural beat tracking use CoreML acceleration. While these features work on A13 chips (iPhone 11, iPad 8th gen), they perform significantly faster on A14 and later chips. On an iPhone 15 Pro (A17 Pro), stem separation completes in under 2 seconds per track.

Storage Recommendations

Tremor requires minimal base storage, but AI features create cached data:

  • App size: ~100MB including the AI models
  • Stem cache: ~50MB per separated track (stored in your device's temporary storage)
  • Waveform cache: ~1MB per analyzed track (stored in app documents)

For heavy stem usage, we recommend having at least 500MB of free space. The stem cache is automatically managed and older entries are cleared when space is needed.

2Installation

Tremor is available exclusively on the App Store. There are two ways to find it:

Option A: Search the App Store

  • Open the App Store on your device
  • Tap the Search tab
  • Enter "Tremor DJ"
  • Tap Get (or the cloud icon if you have previously downloaded it)
  • Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple ID password

Option B: Direct Link

Visit tremor.dj on your device and tap the App Store badge, or scan the QR code on our website from your iPhone or iPad.

Subscription and Pricing

Tremor offers a free tier with core DJ functionality. Premium features like AI stems, neural beat detection, 4-deck mode, and video mixing are available through an optional subscription. See our pricing page for current plans.

3First Launch and Permissions

When you first launch Tremor, you will be asked to grant certain permissions. Here is what each permission enables and why it is needed:

Required

Music Library Access

This permission allows Tremor to browse and play music from your Apple Music library.

  • Browse your songs, albums, artists, and playlists
  • Load tracks onto the virtual decks
  • Access music metadata (artwork, BPM, genre)

Note: Without this permission, you can still load tracks from the Files app or cloud services, but you will not be able to browse your music library directly within Tremor.

Optional

Microphone Access

The microphone is used for optional features only. You can decline this permission and enable it later from Settings if needed.

  • Shazam identification: Hold your device near a speaker to identify playing tracks and load them
  • Voice announcements: Record and play custom DJ drops or announcements
  • Mic input: Route microphone audio through the mixer for live performances
Changing Permissions Later

You can always change these permissions in the iOS Settings app. Go to Settings > Tremor to toggle Media & Apple Music access and Microphone access.

4Quick Start Checklist

Follow these steps to go from installation to your first mix:

1

Launch Tremor

Tap the Tremor icon on your home screen. The app opens to the main DJ interface with two virtual decks.

2

Grant Music Library Access

When prompted, tap Allow Access to Full Library. This lets you browse all your music. You can also choose "Select Music" to pick specific songs.

3

Open the Library

Tap the folder icon or swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the music browser.

4

Load Your First Track

Browse to a track and tap it. Choose Load to Deck A (left) or Load to Deck B (right). The waveform will appear and BPM will be analyzed automatically.

5

Press Play

Tap the Play button on the deck. Audio plays through your device speakers or connected headphones. Make sure your volume is up!

6

Load a Second Track

Open the library again and load another track to the opposite deck. Now you are ready to mix!

Pro Tip: Split Audio

For proper DJ monitoring, connect headphones and enable Split Audio in Settings. This routes the cue (preview) to headphones and the master output to speakers, so you can preview tracks before mixing them in.
