Color FX (CFX)
Each deck has a dedicated Color FX knob for one-touch effect control. Located on the EQ page in the center panel, the CFX knob provides instant access to your selected effect.
How It Works
- Center position = effect bypassed (no processing)
- Turn left or right = effect intensity increases as you move away from center
- Tap the CFX label to switch between available effects
Available Color FX
Filter
Low-pass / High-pass sweep. Turn left for low-pass (removes highs), right for high-pass (removes lows).
Space
Reverb effect. Adds spatial depth and ambience to the sound.
Dub Echo
Delay with feedback. Classic dub-style echo that repeats and fades.
Crush
Bitcrusher. Reduces bit depth for gritty, lo-fi digital distortion.
Pitch
Pitch shift. Changes the pitch without affecting playback speed.
Noise
White noise blend. Mixes white noise into the audio for texture and buildup effects.
Quick Tip
Filter is the most commonly used Color FX. Use it to smoothly transition between tracks by filtering out frequencies as one track fades out.
AU Effects (Audio Units)
Swipe to the AU FX page in the center panel for full-featured Audio Unit effects. Each effect includes interactive controls and presets for precise sound design.
Accessing AU Effects
Swipe to the AU FX page in the center panel (or tap the FX button if available).
Select an effect from the 9 available options. The effect loads with its interactive control surface.
Toggle the power LED in the effect header to enable/bypass the effect.
Use preset buttons at the bottom to quickly switch between saved configurations.
Built-in Effects
Delay Interactive
Echo graph with visual feedback. Drag on the graph to adjust delay time and feedback amount. Watch echo taps decay in real-time.
Reverb Presets
Controls for decay, damping, and dry/wet mix. Presets include Hall, Plate, and Chamber reverb types.
Bandpass Filter Interactive
Interactive frequency response graph. Drag to sweep the center frequency, pinch to adjust bandwidth, double-tap to reset to default.
Phaser Presets
Classic phaser with rate, depth, and feedback controls. Multiple presets for different sweep intensities.
Flanger Presets
Flanging effect with rate, depth, and feedback. Presets range from subtle to extreme jet-plane sounds.
Tremolo Presets
Amplitude modulation with rate, depth, and mix controls. Create rhythmic volume pulsing effects.
Bitcrusher
Bit depth reduction, sample rate reduction, and mix controls. Perfect for adding digital grit and lo-fi character.
Gate
Noise gate with threshold, attack, and release controls. Cuts audio below the threshold level.
Chorus
Stereo chorus with rate, depth, and mix controls. Adds width and movement to the sound.
Expanded View Modes
AU Effects can be accessed in different view modes depending on your workflow needs:
| View Mode | How to Access | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Center Panel | Swipe to the AU FX page | Quick access while keeping both decks visible. Compact controls for on-the-fly adjustments. |
| Popover | Tap the FX button on a deck | Focused effect editing without leaving the current view. Appears as an overlay. |
| Expanded / Full Screen | Tap the expand icon in the effect header (or double-tap the effect area) | Maximum control surface for detailed tweaking. Interactive graphs are larger and more precise. |
Quick Tip
Use center panel view during active mixing for quick access. Switch to expanded view during preparation or when fine-tuning effect parameters for a specific transition.
Smart Fader
Smart Fader automatically applies transition effects as you move the crossfader, creating smooth professional transitions without touching any extra controls.
How to Enable (with DJ Controller)
Press the Smart Fader button on your DJ controller.
A green SF:ECHO indicator appears on the crossfader area, confirming Smart Fader is active.
Move the crossfader. The outgoing deck automatically receives the transition effect.
Press Smart Fader again to disable and return to normal crossfader behavior.
Smart Fader Modes
Press SHIFT + Smart Fader to cycle through available modes:
| Mode | Indicator | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| ECHO | SF:ECHO | Delay/echo applied to outgoing deck as it fades |
| FILTER | SF:FILTER | Low-pass filter sweep on outgoing deck |
| ECHO+FLT | SF:ECHO+FLT | Both echo and filter combined for dramatic transitions |
Pro Technique
Use ECHO+FLT mode for the most professional-sounding transitions. The filter closes down the outgoing track while the echo creates a natural tail that blends into the incoming track.
Effect Tips
Get the most out of your effects with these professional techniques.
Effect Chain Order
- Filter last: Use a filter as the final effect in your chain to "close" effect tails cleanly when transitioning
- Reverb before delay: Creates a spacey, ethereal sound as the reverb tail gets repeated
- Delay before reverb: Creates a washy, ambient texture as echoes blend together
Best Practices
- Beat-synced effects work best when tracks are synced. Enable SYNC for both decks before applying rhythmic effects
- Return to center: Always return Color FX knobs to center before loading a new track to avoid unexpected processing
- Less is more: Subtle effect use often sounds more professional than heavy-handed application
- Automate with crossfader: Smart Fader handles effect automation so you can focus on track selection and timing
Watch Your Levels
Some effects (especially reverb and delay with high feedback) can increase overall volume. Keep an eye on your meters to avoid clipping.
